Variation Analysis In The Great Apes Reveals Species - Specific Patterns Of Structural Variation

چکیده
Sample collection A list of individuals, origins and hybridization arrays can be found in Supplementary Table S11. The geographical origins of the ancestors of our samples are sometimes unavailable. Gathering all possible information, we could determine that, among the individuals used on the oligonucleotide array, 5 chimpanzees are Central chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes troglodytes), 1 is a Western chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes verus), and 1 is of at least of 3/4 Pan troglodytes troglodytes ancestry. All the gorillas were Western lowland gorillas (Gorilla gorilla gorilla). Five orangutans were of Sumatran origin (Pongo abelii) and three were from Borneo (Pongo pygmaeus).

Copy number variation analysis in the great apes reveals species-specific patterns of structural variation.
Copy number variants (CNVs) are increasingly acknowledged as an important source of evolutionary novelties in the human lineage. However, our understanding of their significance is still hindered by the lack of primate CNV data. We performed intraspecific comparative genomic hybridizations to identify loci harboring copy number variants in each of the four great apes: bonobos, chimpanzees, gori...

Although nucleotide resolution maps of genomic structural variants (SVs) have provided insights into the origin and impact of phenotypic diversity in humans, comparable maps in nonhuman primates have thus far been lacking. Using massively parallel DNA sequencing, we constructed fine-resolution genomic structural variation maps in five chimpanzees, five orang-utans, and five rhesus macaques. The...
متن کاملGreat apes and children infer causal relations from patterns of variation and covariation.
We investigated whether nonhuman great apes (N=23), 2.5-year-old (N=20), and 3-year-old children (N=40) infer causal relations from patterns of variation and covariation by adapting the blicket detector paradigm for apes. We presented chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes), bonobos (Pan paniscus), orangutans (Pongo abelii), gorillas (Gorilla gorilla), and children (Homo sapiens) with a novel reward disp...
متن کاملThe genetical history of humans and the great apes.
When and where did modern humans evolve? How did our ancestors spread over the world? Traditionally, answers to questions such as these have been sought in historical, archaeological, and fossil records. However, increasingly genetic data provide information about the evolution of our species. In this review, we focus on the comparison of the variation in the human gene pool to that of our clos...
متن کاملEvolution of exon 1 of the dopamine D4 receptor (DRD4) gene in primates.
The dopamine D4 receptor (DRD4) gene exhibits a large amount of expressed polymorphism in humans. To understand the evolutionary history of the first exon of DRD4-which in humans contains a polymorphic 12bp tandem duplication, a polymorphic 13bp deletion, and other rare variants-we examined the homologous exon in thirteen other primate species. The great apes possess a variable number of tandem...
